A few weeks ago, I shared “Frenchie with a bum leg“. She turned out beautiful and was bought up just a few days after listing her. The lady that purchased Frenchie, was also looking for a couple other pieces to re-do her guest bedroom. I was more than happy to send pictures of what I have waiting in the wings for repairs. I would say Ms D. has a very good eye for looking past the dated colors and seeing the end vision. The enclosed entry way table was not in the finest shape or even close to her glory days.
Ms D. selected a furniture piece that I named “Gum Shoe Sally”, don’t ask why I name them; I think it makes it easier for me to keep them straight, it just confirms that I’m a slight nut-ball. We received customization requests – increase the height with some legs, and add a shelf to make use of that interior storage space. The console has a lot of nice space, but without a shelf it’s somewhat pointless.
The dresser “Frenchie” hung around a bit longer than she normally would; I wanted to make sure to match the hardware, amount of gold accents, etc.
One word of warning, which I’m sure is on the internet somewhere and I just didn’t see it. See those hinges on “Gum Shoe Sally”? Those are, continuous hinges aka piano hinges, and you cannot simply spray paint these. I wanted the hinges to blend in with the doors rather than standout, so I needed black. I tried spray painting them, painting with chalk paint, painting them again with chalk paint and then a top coat. It didn’t matter what I did, as soon as I opened the door, the paint would chip away. The hardware stores do carry in multiple sizes in both gold and silver, but nope, black was required. I’m glad to say Jerry was able to find some black powder coated hinges online; that Prime membership comes in handy to eliminate those shipping charges. Now we wait, swap out the hinges, and Sally is on her way!
I’m always nervous until I get the final thumbs up, even if I paint furniture for 100 years, I’ll still be nervous until I get feedback that the customer is happy.
AND guess what followed Jerry home yesterday. Yes, another French Provincial Dresser very similar to this one. It looks like four drawers, but the bottom drawer is really one drawer that is extra deep.
Enjoy your day! xxoo
